DIFFERENCES AND CHARACTERISTICS OF THE DIFFERENT WINTER SHEETS
FLANNEL SHEETS
Flannel fabric has been used for hundreds of years to combat the cold. It is the most traditional and its results are more than proven. Lumberjacks or farmers always wore flannel clothing in winter to protect themselves from low temperatures.
The fabric is subjected to a perching process (combing or mechanical brushing) that extracts the ends of the fibers, giving the garment a softness as pleasant to the touch as a cotton flake, they have a long durability.
Flannel sheets are the best known sheets, they are the ones that have been around for a long time since they have been on the market for the longest time, they are the most used in medium-cold climates and their composition is more natural since most are made of 100% cotton, they must have between 80% and 100% cotton to be considered quality flannel sheets, the higher the cotton content, the better quality the sheet will have.
Cotton provides great quality, that soft texture that will make you not want to take them off and they are very warm, they avoid the cold bed effect so common in winter. The best thing is that they are highly breathable and anti-allergenic. They are easy to wash, take longer to dry and wrinkle a little more, but they have a long lifespan as they are the most resistant to washing.
PYRENEE OR POLAR THERMAL SHEETS
The thermal, Pyrenees or polar fabric is made with synthetic fibres, 100% polyester, which is perched to raise the filaments. It is a very fluffy and warmer fabric than flannel. It keeps the heat very well, insulating from the cold and external humidity, as well as being thicker. Since it is not a natural material, it does not facilitate its transpiration, so it is not highly recommended for people who tend to sweat.
Pyrenees, thermal or plolar sheets, with a soft, plush and very warm touch, are not as resistant and are damaged somewhat more after each wash, losing softness and colour with each wash. The advantage of not using cotton is that when it comes to drying, they do so very quickly, which is appreciated in winter.
